The "Good Life" in Hungary

budapest, hungary

Budapest offers the best of any European city

Spas, equestrian centers, wineries & the splendors of Budapest make Hungary ideal for 5 star travel on a budget. Thermal waters enjoyed by the Romans and Turks continue to ooze up through the earth in spas all over Hungary. Romans also get credit for bringing the first grape vines to Hungary. Julie & Mark sample the legendary wines of the Tokai region and cycle through vineyards and medieval towns.

The early nomads who settled Hungary were famed horsemen. This tradition is carried on in the Great Plains region, where costumed "csiskos", or cowboys, perform amazing feats on horseback. For those serious about their riding, there are first rate stables and arenas throughout the country.

Mark & Julie get a taste of old European elegance in cosmopolitan Budapest, where an exquisite meal prepared by a Michelin rated chef can still be enjoyed by the frugal traveler!

TIPS for TRAVELERS to HUNGARY

I love food and wine, and I always enjoy discovering the local cuisine. In Budapest, we could afford to treat ourselves to incredible dining experiences complete with sommelier, grand ambiance and creative dishes - even on a travelers budget...

Here are notes on my favorites:

In BUDAPEST: The sommelier at "Gambrinus" was great - he turned us on to some wonderful wines, paired with their fresh, contemporary cuisine, it was such a treat, we ended up eating there twice!

At "Alabardos" you can have an elegant, classic meal, complete with silver dome covered plates and flaming deserts, in a room straight out of medieval times.

In EGER: Our dinner outside on the patio of the Senetor Haz was memorable evening of good wine, food and the wonderful hospitality of our host. The castle on the hill, all lit up and looming over the town adds to the romantic ambiance!
