Adventure on Kauai, Hawaii

kauaii, hawaiis garden isle by bike

See Kauaii from a bike

Where lush volcanic soil feeds rain forests and taro patches, Mark & Julie experience the "spirit of Aloha". Land once covered in sugar cane fields is now home to riding stables, and roads once used to transport the sugar crop are now ideal terrain for mountain biking.

They'll explore the magnificent Na Pali coast from sea level in a zodiac then board a helicopter for incomparable aerial views!

Outrigger canoes are as much a part of the lifestyle today as they were when the Polynesians arrived to settle the islands, and today's canoe clubs embrace this ancient culture. Julie & Mark jump in with one of the women's teams for an exhilarating ride through the surf.

With all of these adventures, one could forget that Kauai has some of Hawaii's most beautiful white, sandy beaches and the only navigable rivers in the islands, perfect for a leisurely kayak trip.

TIPS for TRAVELERS to KAUAI

This is an easy adventure travel destination, and very popular during winter months with residents of the West Coast of the U.S. - so it can be fairly pricey. The island is small but has distinctly different climates - the north, Princville side is more tropical, lush and rainy; the Poipu area is drier and sunnier. Hanalei in the north is the more laid-back, hippy enclave on the island.

The Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa in Poipu is gorgeous and has everything - golf, spa, beach, kids club, entertainmant and a nice coastal walking trail for sunset strolls. A great place to go if you want to stay put and relax.

The Waimea Plantation Cottages are beyond the heavily populated Poipu area, at the end of the road - quiet, quaint, and easy access to the fabulous hiking in Waimea Canyon. About 45 minute drive from Lihue airport.
