Trekking Annapurna in Nepal

Like in most of Asia, rice is a cornerstone of Nepal culture

Kathmandu is probably the world's first real adventure travel destination. It has changed considerably since the 1950's - as places do when tourism thrives - but in many ways, the city hasn't changed at all.

Nepal offers a wealth of exotic culture, spectacular landscapes, and miles of terrain for trekking. Starting out in the vibrant capital of Kathmandu, Julie takes a breathtaking flight over Mt. Everest, then heads to Pokhara, to explore this romantic lakeside village and begin a trek into the foothills of the Annapurna range.

Her trek takes her through terraced rice fields and small villages where she chats with local kids and marvels over the loads carried on the backs of farmers. After a night in cozy tents, with views of the distant snow covered peaks, Julie sets out on Tibetan Ponies to conclude her trekking adventure.

TIPS for TRAVELERS to NEPAL

Most people have major misconceptions about trekking in Nepal. It is a great way to enjoy magnificent scenery, but it is definitely not a solitary experience. You will pass through many villages along the way and often meet locals on their way home from working in their fields. Take some time to get to know your porters, they can be a wonderful window to the culture - our guides in Nepal really made the trip.

You can go to Nepal with a scheduled tour, or on an custom itinerary planned just for you. Make sure the company you book with is conscientious about the welfare of the environment, Nepali customs and that they employ local people as guides.

There has been some political unrest in Nepal recently - good tour companies will be able to give you current info and advice.
