Kayaking Tropical Thailand
Kayaking Tropical Thailand
The limestone cliffs of southern Thailand make this a paradise for kayakers. Julie & Mark team up with one of the first eco-tourism companies in Asia to explore the aquamarine waters of Phang Na Bay on kayaks.
It's dazzling caves, coves and inland lagoons are home to many colorful bird species, monkeys and exotic sea life. In the island's towering hongs, or caves, Mark & Julie meet the local "hunters" who search for highly prized nests that are sold to make the notorious (and bizarre sounding!) Chinese aphrodisiac "birds nest soup".
They explore the twisted maze of mangroves in kayaks, camp on pristine, deserted beaches and enjoying tropical sunsets with a diverse group of adventurers.
TIPS for TRAVELERS to THAILAND
*TSUNAMI UPDATE : The Phuket area is ready to welcome visitors to it's gorgeous beaches, and the local economy is in desperate need of your help. Now is the time to go to Southern Thailand! Read an article by Julie on the Tsunami aftermath here.
Please be aware, there are many companies running kayaking tours in Phang Na Bay, but they are not all "eco-friendly". You may spend a little more with Sea Canoe, but it is well worth it.
This company is one of the few who takes responsibility for the environment and the welfare of the local people. As travelers, we all must make responsible choices to protect these remaining special places on our earth, and hold ourselves and the tour operators accountable. Your money, spent with the right companies, sends a clear message to encourage protection of the environment and local people.
